Big Ugly Pipes

Every other year a big rusty snake appears on the otherwise beautiful beaches of SPI. This is how we make a beach bigger (until the next storm blows in, anyway.) Materials dredged from the Brownsville Ship channel are piped up to the narrow beaches on the north end of town. This photo was shot from the 6th floor of Seabreeze on Thanksgiving Day. The contractors hope to be finished by Christmas.

Our good friends Don and Edie have done a wonderful job of documenting this project - if you like bulldozers and stuff you wil want to click right here.

Getting Into the Spirit - Toasty the Sandman

No white Christmas for SPI - so we have to make our snowmen from sand. "Toasty" was commissioned for the city Christmas card. Created 11/20/00 by the SoB Sand Castle Wizards.

"This was made the day after Thanksgiving. It was my grandson's first trip to the beach. He loved every minute of it."

Your humble web-wiz and friend Kirk Rademaker put in an appearance at Merry Martini '00 - the night before she leaves for Aruba!

Spirits were high - silly hats, noise makers and lots of the bubbly stuff abounded. Paul Brass wore that frilly white pirate shirt I like so much. Thanks for a great party, Kelly!

Is Winter Over?

1/10/01After all the yucky weather we did not enjoy over the holidays, it was wonderful to see the sun again and the arriving Winter Texans have been greeted with temperatures in the mid-70's. Photo of my buddy Wags just before a recent sunrise.

Like pieces of a very complex 3-d puzzle - Schlitterbahn is slowly transforming the spot formerly occupied by Charlies into a location the whole family will be able to enjoy all summer long.

Needs a Home

"Sandy" (great name!) is a pretty little girl who needs a family she can love. she is very alert and calm and would make a most excellent pet. See some of the other animals currently residing at the Port Isabel Animal Shelter by clicking here.

Believe It or Not!

SPI's own Sons of the Beach Sand Castle Wizards welcomed Ripley's Believe It or Not to South Padre this past weekend. The sculpture is still standing (as of 2/19) at beach access #16. See more pictures of this work in progress here. Watch for it a future broadcast on TBS.
